Before the summer transfer window opens, every fan of the Rangers knows the name Jose Cordoba.
The huge 22-year-old Panamanian defender is among the names most frequently associated with the Ibrox team going into what Philippe Clement has called “quite a rebuild.”
According to reports from last week, Rangers and Jose Cordoba are reportedly in “advanced talks,” with a potential signing fee of up to £2.5 million.
However, the defender for Levski Sofia is in high demand, which has led to suggestions in the player’s native country that a transfer to Rangers isn’t quite as simple as it seems.
The centre back, who has been called the “best defender” in Bulgaria, is reportedly being pursued by other teams besides Rangers.
Rangers in four horse chase for Cordoba
Unsurprisingly, Jose Cordoba is drawing attention from Rangers fans.
Rangers’ transfer profile is met by signing a young Panamanian defender from one of Europe’s lower leagues, while the team is increasing its focus on its player trading model.
The next step is for Rangers to continue developing the centre back in the hopes of turning a big profit in the upcoming seasons.
However, Rangers are not the only team attempting to score a deal in Bulgaria.
Journalist Jose Miguel Dominguez of Panama has been known to disparage Turkish team Besiktas, asserting that Rangers are the front-runners.
The defender, who has shown promise in Bulgaria this season, was reportedly being considered by “half of Europe,” according to the writer.
Reports in the Bulgarian tabloid Gol linked the center-back to Lille, Ligue 1, supporting the idea that teams in France were interested in him.
The report also mentions USG, a Belgian team that Rangers supporters may recognise from the 22–23 Champions League qualifying round.
Rangers aim as they leave Bulgaria
Jose Cordoba looks as though he will be leaving Levski Sofia this summer.
Although supporters of the Rangers will be hopeful that the Panamanian will be arriving at Ibrox, several teams are interested in the left-sided defender.
The current Cordoba team has not missed it, as Levski Sofia president Nasko Sirakov acknowledged a few weeks ago that the team has “no right” to hold onto the centre back.
According to Sirakov, “there is serious interest in our players.” “To replace those who are leaving, we might need to sign over five new ones.”
“I don’t sell for a penny. (But) Jose, we won’t have the moral authority to keep him if he keeps acting this way.
He is the subject of intense interest. He and I had a talk. I advised him to consider the upcoming (few) games and the Copa America preparations. Let the club handle the remainder.
