The Nottinghamshire FA Senior Cup was claimed by Forest’s B Team on Tuesday night after a 2-0 victory over Basford United in the final at Coronation Park.
Having triumphed over Gedling, Radford, and Eastwood in previous matches, the young Reds earned their place in the final. Esapa Osong and Josh Powell were the heroes of the night, scoring the goals that secured the silverware.
Under the guidance of Warren Joyce, Forest’s side started the game positively, dominating possession as they searched for an early goal. However, the first half ended without any clear chances being converted.
Shortly after the break, Osong broke the deadlock by converting Ben Perry’s driven cross from close range, giving Forest a well-deserved lead.
Basford United fought back admirably, creating opportunities that forced impressive saves from Aaron Bott and even hitting the woodwork on multiple occasions in their quest for an equalizer.
Osong then turned provider, setting up substitute Josh Powell who extended the Reds’ advantage with 15 minutes remaining.
Basford United had a chance to reduce the deficit from the penalty spot, but former Red Matt Thornhill missed the target, allowing Forest to maintain their clean sheet.
This victory marks the conclusion of Forest B Team’s successful 2023/24 campaign.
