If Rangers are to close the gap on Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race, Michael Stewart thinks they have a difficult task ahead of them during the summer transfer window.
Following their 5-0 victory over Kilmarnock on the road on Wednesday, May 15, Brendan Rogers’ team had defeated the Gers to win the title.
Stewart discussed the problem facing Phillipe Clement on BBC Sportsound on May 15, at 9:33 p.m., as the transfer window approaches.
“Regardless of what Celtic do, Rangers have a big summer ahead of them,” he stated. Rangers need to try to make major repairs.
“The unsatisfactory hiring of Michael Beale throughout the summer. Rangers’ duty will be made even more crucial if Celtic successfully fortify the areas where they will need to.
Rangers have very little room for mistake if they hope to get closer to Celtic. Rangers will need to make significant progress in their recruitment this summer in order to position themselves for success.
In the summer transfer window, what does Rangers need?
This summer, there will be several departures from Ibrox as the defence is expected to be severely damaged by departing players and contract expirations.
Ben Davies and Connor Goldson are rumoured to be leaving in the window, and Leon Balogun’s contract expires this summer.
Borna Barisic appears to be leaving, with a pre-contract transfer to Trabzonspor and the possibility of John Lundstram joining him [Gunebakis].
James Tavernier, the captain of the team, is also rumoured to be moving to Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia to rejoin Steven Gerrard.
