Mason Greenwood receives a significant update from the Getafe president.

Mason Greenwood will not be returning to Manchester United this summer, according to Getafe president Angel Torres. The 22-year-old went on loan to Getafe after being told last year that he had no future at the team. In 32 appearances across all competitions, he scored 10 goals and dished out six assists for the La Liga outfit. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new minority stakeholder of Man United, made it possible for the forward to return to Old Trafford for the 2024–25 season earlier this year.

The Red Devils intend to sell Greenwood this summer, if their asking price for the academy product is satisfied, according to numerous reports that have since surfaced. The president of Getafe expressed optimism that the Englishman’s loan agreement in Spain would be extended and stated that a summer return to Manchester United is not in the cards.

“If it was up to the lad, his parents and the club [Getafe], I think he would continue for another year,” Torres stated to Marca. But in regards to Manchester [United], we know from last week’s news that the sports director visited England to see some games and was with them that they would like to sell if a solid offer came along since he would not be returning there [to Manchester]. “We’ll have to hold off until June’s end. Here, among our supporters, the footballer and his family feel completely at ease and content. This was his first time playing in sixteen months.

“He has found his form again, tallying eight goals in the league and two in the Copa [del Rey].” Both the team and the coach are quite pleased with him. He’s probably going to stick around for at least another season, if not until January. He plays football well.”

In early 2022, Greenwood was taken into custody on charges of assault and rape after a lady made complaints. He was then detained on suspicion of sexual assault and making threats to kill. In addition, the forward was charged with attempted rape, using coercive and controlling behavior, and assault resulting in actual bodily damage. However, the case against him was dismissed in February 2023, allowing him to play again in the 2023–2024 season.

Man United is believed to have made the decision to add him back to their roster for the current campaign, but the public’s outcry compelled them to change their minds. Greenwood last played for Man United against West Ham United in January 2022. He has played for the club on 129 occasions throughout all competitions, totaling 35 goals and 12 assists. Regarding profitability and sustainability, any sale of the forward this summer would be considered a pure profit under Premier League regulations.
