Tam McManus suggests that Rangers should consider signing Dundee left-back Owen Dodgson, who is currently on loan from Burnley. McManus believes that Dodgson has performed well enough to attract interest from both Rangers and Celtic. Dodgson has impressed McManus in the two games he has seen him play, particularly against Celtic and Rangers.
There are speculations that Dodgson could potentially replace Borna Barisic at Rangers. Barisic is expected to leave the club on a free transfer this summer, with Trabzonspor reportedly interested in signing him. Barisic has lost his starting spot to Ridvan Yilmaz this season, although injuries have required Barisic and Dujon Sterling to provide cover in Yilmaz’s absence.
Rangers manager Philippe Clement will likely be looking to recruit a player of sufficient quality to compete with Barisic and provide depth in the squad. Dodgson has thrived in Scotland since his loan move from Barnsley, making 13 appearances across all competitions. His versatility, being able to play as a left-back, left wing-back, and left-sided central defender, has been particularly impressive. With Dodgson already having experience in the Scottish top-flight and Burnley facing possible relegation from the Premier League, he could prove to be a valuable addition to Rangers.
