The Scottish Football Association recently reported that both Celtic and Hearts were incorrectly awarded penalties during their controversial match in March. An independent review panel overseeing VAR in Scotland identified 10 mistaken decisions during the third round of cinch Premiership fixtures. The panel, consisting of former players, managers, and coaches, along with experts on the Laws of the Game, changes members for each meeting. One of the errors involved Celtic’s Tomoki Iwata being wrongly penalized for a handball that led to a Hearts penalty. The match on March 3 saw two of the 10 incorrect calls, with Celtic and Hearts both benefiting from penalty decisions. Celtic’s manager Brendan Rodgers received a touchline ban for criticizing the officiating as “incompetent.” The penalty awarded to Hearts was the only incorrect call against Celtic during that period, while Rangers also faced two unfavorable decisions. Rangers’ Dujon Sterling was wrongly sent off in a match against Aberdeen, and Kilmarnock was awarded a penalty against them for handball. Hibernian also had reason to be frustrated as it was revealed that they should have been awarded a penalty for a foul by St Johnstone goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov on Emiliano Mar.
