Looking to the summer, It’s time for quality over quantity signings

The ongoing season and the uncertain title race may make it seem like next season is far away, but it is crucial for everyone involved in running the club to start planning for the future. It is evident that we need high-quality players to strengthen our squad. Interestingly, if the club had fully supported the manager in the past two transfer windows, we might not have been in such a tight title fight right now. We would have been in a more comfortable position.

To progress as a club, especially in European competitions, we cannot deceive ourselves. We need proven quality players to come in. And to achieve that, we must be willing to spend a significant amount, around £20 – £25 million, not just on average and inexpensive players, but on players who bring real quality to the team. We should invest heavily in three or four first-team players who are ready to make an immediate impact, rather than signing projects or players who will simply fill the bench. We should prioritize positions such as goalkeeper, left back, centre back, and centre forward.

It is disappointing that these signings were not made at the beginning of the season. Regardless of the outcome of the title race and the financial boost from the Champions League, we can still afford these investments. We have achieved record profits, and we are expecting a substantial sell-on fee from the sale of Jeremie Frimpong to Bayer Leverkusen. Additionally, we are likely to sell another player for a significant sum, not to mention the various other sources of income flowing into the club.

If the club’s decision-makers truly have ambitions for the future of the club, it is time for them to be more willing to spend money. Otherwise, there may be serious discontent among the fans. Just an Ordinary Bhoy.
