According to pundit Ally McCoist, Coventry City may be susceptible to losing players in summer, including Ben Sheaf, Callum O’Hare, and Haji Wright.

The three players made an impression for Coventry during their team’s historic comeback from a 3-0 deficit to force extra time in their FA Cup semi-final matchup against Manchester United on Sunday at Wembley.

Before halftime, goals from Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire put United ahead by two goals, and when Bruno Fernandes scored a third goal in the second half, it appeared as though the Red Devils had won the match.

But Coventry then mounted a stunning comeback, with goals from Ellis Simms and O’Hare cutting the deficit and a penalty kick from Haji Wright in the 95th minute tying the score.

In the final minute of extra time, the Sky Blues came dangerously close to winning the match, but Victor Torp’s goal was disallowed because Wright was judged to have been offside during the build-up. United went on to win on penalties.

Now that they have lost three straight games, Coventry’s chances of making the playoffs are minimal. Nevertheless, they will focus their attention back on the league.

The Sky Blues are nine points behind sixth-place Norwich City in the Championship standings, and even if they win all four of their remaining games, goal differential may prevent them from finishing in the top six.

McCoist: Premier League teams will be interested in Sheaf, O’Hare, and Wright.

McCoist thinks Premier League teams should be keeping an eye on Sheaf, O’Hare, and Wright, but he also thinks Coventry needs to hold onto its finest players if they want to challenge for promotion the next year.

“I think they should absolutely be snapped up by Premier League clubs,” McCoist stated.

“I’ve watched them a few times, but Haji Wright, who is a really talented player, should also be considered.

“I believe the team has four or five players that would definitely be of interest to teams in the lower divisions of the Premier League, but that’s the last thing you want to happen if you’re Coventry!

“I believe that their FA Cup triumph has likely cost them a spot in this year’s play-offs, and it will be interesting to hear Mark Robins’ opinion.

“They saw an unanticipated decline in performance after their match against Wolves, so they will want to try harder to advance next season and won’t want to cut any of their finest players.

However, as is well known, their financial circumstances will determine whether or not they are forced to sell players.

“If they do want to reach the top flight, though, you don’t want to sell those guys.”
