Leon Balogun on his Rangers return, Ibrox future and Goldson after Hearts victory

Following a Scottish Cup victory against Hearts, the ominous clouds that had gathered over Rangers prior to Sunday dissipated. Although Leon Balogun would have wanted a different climate, the team that had appeared to be underdog going to Hampden now has a better prediction.

After a challenging few weeks, Philippe Clement was able to enjoy the return of the sun. Cyriel Dessers’ two goals preserved the triple dream and guaranteed a spot in the campaign’s grand finale. Additionally, it has elevated the spirits of a dejected fan base that was afraid their season would spiral out of control.

Glasgow’s momentum was altered by the loss to Motherwell and the squandered opportunity against Celtic. Clement’s team is now at a disadvantage after drawing with Dundee and losing to Ross County. As they head into the remaining six games of the season, their destiny is still in their own hands, but the small victories against the Jambos need to be accompanied by more notable indicators of development.

Balogun saw from the sidelines as Rangers faltered during the Premier League season. He was back at the center of the defence at Hampden. Clement intimidated that Connor Goldson had intended to make the transition at Dens Park and attributed his decision to drop him to “freshness.” Ultimately, it turned out to be a wise decision on Clement’s part, as Balogun celebrated his comeback to the team with a brilliant performance that helped Rangers win handily.

Balogun’s start against Hearts marked his first minutes since he was substituted off against Livingston in early February, with the exception of a late run-out against Celtic. He never would have imagined that his extended absence would be due to the significant facial injuries he received that day. There was a lot of demand for him to play right away, and at Hampden, he showed his worth and integrity.

Balogun laughed when asked how he felt after the ninety minutes. “Tired,” he replied. It was really difficult, especially when the sun came out. Even though it has been raining a lot lately, I would have loved it to stay cloudy or overcast. I believe it has been eight or nine weeks since I last played. In addition, I was sick at the start of the week and didn’t feel well until Thursday.
