Celtic considering Jonny Hayes and Charlie Mulgrew for U18 role

Charlie Mulgrew and Jonny Hayes are apparently being considered by Celtic for the position of U18s coach. After Stuart McLaren departed the team, a vacancy occurred, and it seems that the Scottish Champions are giving two former Celts some thought.

Hayes and Mulgrew are reportedly being considered for the position at the Celtic Academy, according to Record Sport. Mulgrew, who put up his boots at the start of the season, is the logical pick as he tries to establish himself as a head coach.

Meanwhile, Hayes has been working away as an Academy coach while remaining a player on Pittodrie’s roster.

Both are highly regarded by Brendan Rodgers, who invited Mulgrew to witness training at Lennoxtown while the Irishman recruited his fellow countryman Hayes from Aberdeen in 2017 and permitted Mulgrew to continue training at the club after his contract expired.

As the team continues its behind-the-scenes reorganization, Darren O’Dea has already been officially confirmed as Professional Players Pathways Manager.

While Celtic is hard at work refining and reorganizing the club’s scouting systems, the manager will want to know that there are people in the team he can trust and who share his philosophy of play.
