Carter-Vickers and Aberdeen winger Junior Hoilett got into a heated argument in the final seconds of extra time.

At 3-3, the game was close and there was a noticeable sense of anxiety throughout Hampden Park.Desperate to prevent Hoilett from scoring a goal, Carter-Vickers made contact with him while he was trying to clear the ball.

At first, it looked as though Aberdeen had a great chance to take the lead with a late penalty because of this occurrence. But when referee Don Robertson chose not to give the penalty, citing an earlier foul on Celtic’s Alistair Johnston, the game took a drastically different turn.

When Carter-Vickers thought back on the tense situations, he said, “Yes, I did [think he conceded a penalty], to be honest.” Most likely, that was a foul. Before, we weren’t given the (earlier) foul, but later, we were. I was relieved when it wasn’t given because I had assumed it would be. Naturally, you don’t want to surrender late and then assume that penalties will be needed. I was in prayer. The referee only declared that Alistair Johnston had committed a foul. I then noticed that VAR was examining it. “Just stick to your decision if you’ve seen it on the pitch,” I told him. [RecordSport]

The decision not to give the penalty ultimately stood, enabling Celtic to make it to a penalty shootout, which they won 6-5. Celtic’s victory moved them to the Scottish Cup Final, where they will play their opponents on Sunday night.
