Scotland striker Lyndon Dykes ends three-month scoring drought with vital goal for QPR

Scotland striker Lyon Dykes scored a pivotal goal in Queens Park Rangers’ fight against the drop in the Skybet Championship to snap his three-month goal drought.

Dykes hadn’t scored for his team or club since QPR’s 2-1 loss to Watford on January 14. However, on Saturday night, he scored as Marti Cifuentes’ team defeated Preston 1-0 at Loftus Road, earning a valuable victory. After Freddie Woodman mishandled a cross from Chris Willock, Dykes scored his first goal for QPR in 16 games and only his fifth goal overall this season at the far post on minute twenty.

With two games left in the season, Rangers’ victory lifted them to 50 points, six points clear of the relegation zone. However, due to their better goal differential, Rangers will almost certainly avoid relegation even if Sheffield Wednesday, who are now in second place, lose against Blackburn on Sunday. Because of other Saturday’s results, Cifuentes’ team knew going into the game that a victory would allay worries about falling into League One.

At Loftus Road, QPR defeated Preston 1-0 thanks to a goal by Lyndon Dykes.

Dykes will be relieved to have scored the goal, since he has had a challenging season playing in the English second division. The 28-year-old former Livingston striker is vying for a spot in Scotland’s starting lineup at Euro 2024 with Southampton’s recently impressive forward Che Adams and Hearts’ 28-goal scorer Lawrence Shankland.
