Kolo Toure revisits incredible Celtic spell, ‘battering’ Rangers and moment he knew it was time to retire

Midway through his first and only season as a player at Celtic, Kolo Toure acknowledges that he realized it was time to retire.

The 43-year-old football cult icon attended Parkhead for a year in 2016–17 before calling it quits on an amazing career. Arsenal’s Invincible Toure led the Hoops to a historic Invincible Treble by accompanying former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers up to Glasgow. The Ivory Coast defender was crucial to Celtic’s early success under Rodgers’ initial leadership, shining in both the Champions League qualifying round and the historic 5-1 victory against the recently promoted Rangers.

However, following a disastrous performance against Borussia Monchengladbach in October 2016, the two-time Premier League winner quickly disappeared from the picture. He played just five more games before hanging up his boots and joining Rodgers’ backroom crew. Even though Toure was aware that his playing days were coming to an end, he still enjoyed performing in front of 60,000 spectators at Celtic Park.
