Rangers: Dundee handed six-figure fine by SPFL after Dens Park controversy

The Scottish Premiership has fined Dundee £186,000 in response to the dispute surrounding the postponed matchup between Rangers and Celtics at Dens Park.

According to the official SPFL website, Dundee has acknowledged five different instances of breaking the rules pertaining to the Dens Park pitch, the most recent of which was the Rangers match.

The match was originally scheduled to take place on March 17th for Philippe Clement’s team against Dundee. However, it was postponed, and on April 17th, it finally took place.

“SPFL Rules on pitch condition are an integral part of maintaining a fair league competition,” stated an SPFL spokesperson.

Rangers’ frustration with the Dundee situation at Dens Park

To the delight of Chris Sutton, Clement was so agitated by the ongoing uncertainty surrounding this encounter that he felt it had negatively impacted the team’s preparations for the 3-2 loss to Ross County at Dingwall.

The story had received a lot of attention, and players like Simon Jordan took to social media to criticize Rangers for their involvement and to claim that they had refused to play the match as a prelude to the Old Firm’s 3-3 draw at Ibrox.

Not only that, but it would have dealt a serious damage to Rangers’ feelings and the current title chase to finally get to play the match a month after it was originally scheduled to happen and limp to a dismal 0-0 tie.

Rangers Philippe Clement
Watching his Rangers team lose to Ross County was Philippe Clement.

The most annoying thing will probably be the draw because Clement’s squad let Celtic stay three points ahead of them at the top of the league, giving Brendan Rodgers’ club the opportunity to win the championship.
