‘Incredible’ – Derek Ferguson reacts live on air today as BBC Scotland host accused of Rangers bias

Derek Ferguson has offered an “incredible” verdict on Rangers star James Tavernier after Kenny Macintyre was accused of bias live on air.

While discussing Tavernier on BBC Radio Scotland (4:17 pm, 30 March), host Macintyre was accused of bias by one supporter after offering his verdict on Tavernier.

Macintyre said, “I’m getting grief on social media, Sam saying ‘the totally unbiased’ Kenny Macintyre just described James Taverner as a brilliant player.

“I can only assume he never saw Stokesy (Anthony Stokes) tear him a new one in 2016, Tavernier for Rangers, Derek?”

The former Gers midfielder came to Macintyre’s defence, stating, “He’s been absolutely unbelievable, it’s incredible.”

It is hard to argue that Ferguson would be considered any less biased than Macintyre when it comes to discussing Rangers, although it is also difficult to argue that Tavernier has had an incredible impact at Ibrox.

The Rangers captain was on hand once again to score on Saturday (30 March) as his side strolled to a 3-1 victory against Hibernian at Ibrox, which saw them return to the top of the Scottish Premiership and move two points clear of Celtic.

His scoring record for a right-back is absolutely phenomenal, with the 32-year-old having found the back of the net 122 times in his 449 appearances for Rangers.

He so often comes up with big moments, and while his strike against Hibernian might not feel as big as some of his other goals down the years, it could prove to be one of his most important.

Tavernier is on track to lead Rangers to Scottish Premiership success and cement his status as a club legend.

He might have a few defensive mishaps here and there, and Stokes might well have given him a difficult afternoon eight years ago, but it doesn’t make his contributions in Glasgow any less incredible.
