Absolutely crazy’ – Ferguson cannot believe what he saw in Rangers v Hibs live on BBC Scotland

Derek Ferguson has reacted after what he noticed in the Rangers v Hibernian clash at Ibrox in the SPFL on 30 March.

Will Fish took a quick free kick and hit it on Joe Newell who fell to the ground instantly.

Nothing happened to the Hibs midfielder but it was an incident that generated some buzz on social media.

Speaking on BBC Sport Scotland, Ferguson said (30 March, 3:07pm): “We’ve got an injury, a Hibs player. They try to take a quick free-kick and Fish has absolutely booted the ball at Newell, he’s only five yards away. He’s way deep in his own half, he actually smashes it off of Newell’s head and thankfully, he is ok. It’s crazy, absolutely crazy.”

James Tavernier and Cyriel Dessers scored the two goals for Gers in the first half to give them a cushion at the break.

However, until they scored a third goal without conceding another, there were always going to be nerves.

While the hosts dominated possession and kept the ball well on most occasions, it was still not completely comfortable for them.

However, Rabbi Matondo scoring the third was just what they needed to ensure that they secured the three points.

With this result, Gers have now moved into top spot and two points clear of rivals Celtic, having played the same number of games.

It was important that they stuck at it from start to end and despite a few nervy moments, Philippe Clement will be delighted his side got over the line.

In other Rangers news, European league giants have started their summer transfer activity and have launched a bid for a first-team Gers player with an update shared on his decision.
