BREAKING NEWS: Kieran McKenna travelling with Blackburn Rovers to Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town: How Kieran McKenna has taken club to brink of back-to-back promotions | Football News | Sky Sports

Manager of Ipswich Town Kieran McKenna is aware that Blackburn Rovers have developed into a formidable opponent for his squad.

At Ewood Park this afternoon (5.30pm), the promotion-chasing Blues, who have won seven of their past eight games, take on the relegation-battling Rovers.

Despite only having one victory in their previous 17 league games, the Lancashire team has drawn six of their last seven games under new manager John Eustace.

“They’ve not won many games lately, but they’ve not lost many either and they’re conceding less goals,” McKenna stated.

“I believe that you have characteristics from Jon Dahl Tomasson, the previous manager. They attack with plenty of numbers and a decent level of intensity, and they have some truly outstanding forward players. That’s still visible from the side. Additionally, it’s quite evident what John and the team are working extremely hard on.

“They are competing in the bottom half of an extremely competitive division where many teams are in dire need of points.”In a fiercely competitive situation, we’re fighting at the other end of the table to try to earn our own performances and points.

“We know we’re in for a really tough game, but I’m sure Blackburn know they’re in for a tough game as well.”

The regular season is down to just eight games remaining. After today, Town will play home to Southampton, currently in fourth position, on Monday at 5.30 p.m., before getting ready for an East Anglian derby against Norwich City on Saturday.

“I honestly don’t think it’s too hard for this group and hopefully the future will prove me right,” McKenna said in response to a question about how difficult it was to make sure his players adhere to their motto of “one game at a time” considering the magnitude of the upcoming matchups.

“I’m not saying we’re going to win every game, but I don’t see much logic in the group when it comes to being sidetracked, getting carried away by outside noise, and allowing other people dictate how we should think or feel.

“I think we did a very good job of demonstrating that following the Cardiff game, and hopefully we’ll keep doing so.

“As I previously stated, it doesn’t ensure performances or points, but our goal is to give every game our best effort.

“Games are going to drop in quick succession. 15 days and five are left. For various reasons, each game presents a significant challenge.

Blackburn is our first opponent following an international break. Everything that goes with a team that is playing for points away from home.

“Thereafter, we have Watford, Middlesbrough, Southampton, and Norwich. Actually, every game is demanding; each one demands enough skill, strategy, and excitement to hold our interest.

“Therefore, I have a lot of faith in the group’s capacity to maintain concentration on our procedures, maintain focus on the performance, and avoid worrying about anything outside of our control.

It has to remain that way because that is how things have always been.We cannot afford to lose focus on the upcoming game. This Blackburn game is going to be extremely challenging.

“They have far more recent Championship experience than we do, and they have good players. It would be silly of us to seek anywhere else.
Naturally, scheduling five games in fifteen days may need you to think ahead tactically about which players will suit which opposition or what kind of game to play.

“But in terms of importance of games or difficulty of games, I think it’s impossible and unnecessary to make any distinctions at this stage of the year.”
