BBC Scotland admit breach after talks held with presenter over comments on Rangers hero

Following their conversation with Stuart Cosgrove on his remarks against Rangers heroRichard Gough, BBC Scotland has acknowledged that they violated guidelines.

According to the Scotthard Goughish Sun (28 March), a listener lodged a complaint against Cosgrove for remarks he made about Gough’s position on apartheid.

The BBC acknowledged that this was a personal jab against someone without offering him the opportunity to defend himself.

BBC do right by Rangers hero Richard Gough

By recognising and resolving Cosgrove’s violations of broadcast rules, the BBC acted appropriately.

His allegation that he supported apartheid was regarded as inappropriate since it was a personal attack without giving the former Gers player Gough a chance to refute it.

Although the BBC deserves praise for swiftly resolving these concerns, this just serves to highlight how crucial it is to maintain professional standards and steer clear of potentially damaging or objectionable information.

It is the duty of broadcasters to uphold honesty, decency, and equity in their content, guaranteeing a secure and welcoming atmosphere for every listener.

Such remarks are inappropriate for responsible journalism and ought to be refrained from in order to preserve the credibility and reputation of the broadcaster.
