Trabzonspor want to sign Rangers midfielder John Lundstram on a free transfer this summer alongside Borna Barisic, according to AcdenizGerzek.
Writing on their website (28 March), the Turkish news outlet report that the English midfielder is a target for the Super Lig club when his contract expires at the end of the season.
They also want to sign left-back Barisic and are said to be close to confirming a deal, while Rangers are hopeful of tying the former Sheffield United midfielder down to a new contract instead of letting him leave.
“Trabzonspor continues its contacts for John Lundstram, who plays for Rangers after Borna Barisic,” they wrote.
“The English player’s contract expires in 2024 and Trabzonspor is evaluating this situation. Trabzonspor, which wants to add a player from Scotland to its squad, continues its efforts to convince Lundstram.”
This summer transfer window is going to be a big one for Philippe Clement, because there are big decisions that need to be made.
So far the manager has brought in three players since becoming the manager and all of Oscar Cortes, Fabio Silva and Mohammed Diomande have been fantastic additions to the squad.
On the other hand he has also made players like Ross McCausland and Ridvan Yilmaz key players in his team, showing that he is more than capable of working his magic with the players he already has.
But contract decisions are essential in the coming weeks, because it can shape the future of the club financially with the likes of Lundstram potentially having re-sale value also.
Barisic will be allowed to leave because he doesn’t play enough anymore, but Lundstram is key. A move to Turkey doesn’t seem like something that would usually appeal to him, however money talks. If Ibrox chiefs aren’t willing to pay up, it may be his only option.
