‘A Mockery’ – Pundit makes ‘Conspiracy’ admission amid Celtic update ahead of Rangers clash

Celtic conspiracy theorists will fueled further if the SPFL “make a mockery” of the Scottish game and hand Brendan Rodgers a touchline ban against Rangers, according to Peter Grant. The Hoops boss is facing a two-game touchline ban for his comments and actions following Celtic’s Premiership loss to Hearts at Tynecastle, which would see him miss the Old Firm clash with the Gers at Ibrox. While it remains to be seen if Rodgers’ punishment will be reduced, Go Radio pundit Grant has suggested fans will suggest there is a “conspiracy” to favour the Gers if the Northern Irishman is banned from the touchline.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (27 March) he said: “If Brendan Rodgers misses the Rangers game for whatever reason, you know what people are going to be saying. You know it’s going to be making a mockery of Scottish football.

“In respect of that, you’re going there without fans and your manager (on the touchline). You know the conspiracy theorists everybody talks about? That will be building up.

“You know what everyone will be talking about if Brendan is banned for that game where the away supporters are already away from it.” Rangers and conspiracy theories seem to go hand in hand at the moment. First, fans suggested the Gers were unfairly being awarded penalties and now some are set to believe that Rodgers’ ban is a result of the Light Blues’ power.

It wasn’t that long ago that Celtic claimed all three points against Philippe Clement’s side at Parkhead thanks to a controversial refereeing call that benefitted the Hoops and denied the Gers what was a fairly clear penalty.

It would likely be a boost to Clement’s team if Rodgers isn’t on the touchline for what could be a decisive Old Firm meeting, but it won’t automatically mean that Rangers will claim all three points.

Hopefully, some clarity will emerge about Rodgers’ position sooner rather than later so that any talk of conspiracy or some sort of favour towards one side or another can be brushed to the side and the focus can instead be on football.
