Celtic star Rocco Vata a transfer target for English club who have 'firm interest' in cut-price swoop | The Scottish Sun

Everton are among the clubs interested in signing Celtic sensation Rocco Vata this summer, according to Harry Watkinson.

Writing on his own Twitter account (27 March), the TEAMtalk journalist writes that the 18-year-old is on the shortlist at Goodison Park after scoring 12 goals in 15 outings for the Hoops’ B side this season.

Vata is a Republic of Ireland youth international and is out of contract at Parkhead at the end of the season, with numerous European teams rumoured to be interested in his services also.

One for the future of Everton?

Everton’s approach for transfers must shift from recent years, and that means more of a priority placed upon getting young players who can be coached and sculpted into great players.

With the future of Dominic Calvert-Lewin up in the air, while Beto has struggled to truly hit the ground running in his debut season and Youssef Chermiti showing nothing in his few opportunities thus far, there is opportunity for a new striker.

Vata is largely untested and unproven, but with his contract ready to expire there is enough of room financially for the Toffees to take a bet and a leap of faith.

Capable of playing across the front line he has considerable versatility and with 12 goals in 15 games this season there is an obvious eye for goal that can be worked on.

Vata would represent a solid addition and would provide a decent glimpse into the future of the club and the way they are planned on going in with subsequent transfer windows.
