According to Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are set to face competition from Manchester City and other clubs for talented Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. Branthwaite is one of the hottest prospects going around in English football. His performances for a struggling Toffees team has caught the eye of the elite clubs in the Premier League. The fact that he helps with the homegrown quota makes him even more appealing.
Manchester United and Real Madrid are the other clubs keeping tabs on the young centre-back. Generally, when Los Blancos are in the race for a player, most clubs don’t have a chance but the PL clubs will be hopeful.
Branthwaite has been selected by Gareth Southgate in the Three Lions squad and could make his full debut in their upcoming match. It is a deserved callup for a player who has been a mainstay in Sean Dyche’s setup this season. Man City’s interest in Branthwaite is particularly interesting considering they already have Ruben Dias, Kyle Walker, Manuel Akanji, John Stones, Nathan Ake and Josko Gvardiol in their squad. Signing Branthwaite might just be in FM terms, “surplus to requirements”.
Whilst this could hand Spurs an advantage over Man City, the same cannot be said about Man Utd and Real Madrid – both of whom need centre-back reinforcements. Can Tottenham lure him to N17 with their exciting project?Tottenham currently have Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin in the squad. Ben Davies is like the joker card in a pack, used to fill holes in defence, wherever the need arises. Postecoglou might want to reinforce his defence in the summer.
Everton aren’t going to make Branthwaite cheap by any stretch of the imagination. Any club interested in him must be ready for a hard-drawn negotiation and willing to pull out the chequebook.
