Rangers: Daily Record hands John Souttar 3/10 after Scotland loss v Netherlands

Benfica v Rangers - Best of the Europa League action

Based on his performance for Scotland in the 4-0 loss to the Netherlands on March 22, the Daily Record gave Rangers defender John Souttar a 3/10 rating.

In its print issue [23 March, page 66], the newspaper published player ratings. Souttar had a score of 3/10, which was not too bad considering that Anthony Ralston, Stuart Armstrong, and Kenny McLean received scores of 2/10.

The Netherlands led by one goal at halftime after scoring their first goal in the 40th minute. However, the appearance of Souttar and other replacements seemed to alter the course of play. After goals in the 72nd, 84th, and 86th minutes, Steve Clarke’s team had a night to forget.

The defender joined Che Adams and Lewis Ferguson on the pitch in the 69th minute, and it took Scotland just three minutes to concede again after the substitutions. This continued as more modifications were made.

With a performance like that, Souttar’s hopes of getting on the aircraft ahead of the European Championships this summer have been severely damaged. This matchup was supposed to be an opportunity for him to show his international manager that he deserves a spot.

The Daily Record gave John Souttar of the Rangers a 3/10 rating.

It remains to be seen if you can argue that Scotland lacks depth given the detrimental effects of the alterations, but Souttar in particular needs to improve his performances on international duty following criticism of his Rangers record.
