What the Premier League did yesterday has proven why their Everton treatment was so unfair

Considering how badly the Premier League had treated Nottingham Forest, Everton had a strong stake in the outcome of their PSR case.

As competitors for relegation, they probably expected to face a similar degree of severity and to effectively be knocked out of the relegation race.

But the result has been nothing like that.

The Tricky Trees have actually settled with a meagre four-point deduction, despite the Premier League initially pushing for a 12-point deduction before settling on 10, which was later lowered to six on appeal.

Nottingham Forest took four points away.

Evertonians’ already-present resentment of their own division has only grown as a result of this entire turn of events, and their actions haven’t done anything to calm the situation.

Since it was previously believed that the attack was directed at those who posed a danger to the “big six,” this most recent one has effectively alienated the Toffees from the Premier League entirely.

Nottingham Forest v Everton FC - Premier League

However, that is obviously untrue given that Forest only received a four-point deduction. It’s only Everton!

The underlying logic of this finding, which clearly highlights the biases throughout the process that saw one club clamp down with extreme severity and the other given leniency, is what adds to the controversy surrounding this incident.

The Premier League treated Everton unfairly.

The amount that Forest overspent is the standout feature that has attracted attention.

Even while their time in the Championship helps to slightly offset this, it is still unacceptable that Everton received a six-point deduction for spending more than they should have ($19 million), while their relegation opponents received just four points ($34.5 million).

It is untrue that Sean Dyche’s team was reluctant and aloof during the process, despite the Premier League’s valiant attempts to portray such a picture. An excellent example of how they went above and above to at least try to comply is selling Richarlison before they were ready in order to get the cash in before the deadline.

Not to add that they sold Brennan Johnson—the obvious comparable for this kind of deal—before the deadline.

Everton supporters will be dissecting the numerous flaws in their justification for yesterday’s conclusion over the next few weeks.

All that can be hoped for is that similar reasons can be raised once again to guarantee that, in an awful season, their six-point deduction is the only punishment they receive.
