Turkey have qualified for the summer tournament and will be in Group F with Portugual, Czechia and an as of yet undetermined playoff winner. Ridvan Yilmaz remains highly-thought of in his home country and it’s interesting that despite impressing with Rangers the left-back was actually initially dropped for these matches. The ex-Besiktas left-back was recalled for November’s round of internationals – although he never added to his six caps – and now he’s just about squeezed into March’s squad. It will raise some doubts about his Euro 2024 credentials but all the £5m Ibrox left-back can do is keep on working hard and impressing at club and international level. There is stuff competition for places and Ridvan Yilmaz is certainly at the centre of that. The man the Rangers star replaces – Ferdi Kadioglu – has been linked to the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal and has been valued at £17m. Ridvan Yilmaz joins another five Rangers internationals who will be joining up with their countries during the final break of the season. Rangers somewhat stuttered to this two-week shutdown with defeats over Motherwell and Benfica looming over our injury-plagued squad a little. A breather might just be exactly what we needed and hopefully Ridvan Yilmaz and those Rangers teammates who are out on duty can carry some momentum into the break. Once the curtain comes down on these final friendlies, it’s the season’s final stretch with everything to play for, including a Euro 2024 place for Turkey star Ridvan Yilmaz.
