DC United of Major League Soccer and Manchester City and Chelsea of the English Premier League have been named as Celtic’s opponents for their highly anticipated summer tour of the United States.
The team managed by Brendan Rodgers was originally set to play Chelsea on July 27 at the storied Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana. They will now play the Treble winners of the previous season at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, South Carolina, four days sooner. They started the domestic tour by travelling to Washington, D.C., to play DC United at Audi Field.
Callum McGregor, the captain of the Celtic Club and a Scotland international, stated: “We are excited to be travelling to Washington to play DC United, and we know this will be another fantastic sporting event.” Celtic has made a lot of fantastic trips to the US to play both MLS and European teams, and I have no doubt that we will have another terrific trip this summer.
“We are incredibly appreciative of our devoted American fans, and we’re thrilled that these games will provide them with another opportunity to watch us play.”
