Blackburn Rovers boast a productive youth academy and there are plenty of first-team hopefuls currently in the ranks at Ewood Park. Some will make breakthroughs in blue and white, while others will be looking to names for themselves elsewhere.
19-year-old midfielder Weston is among the current talents hoping to make a breakthrough. He’s been a mainstay for the U18s and U21s but despite a few Championship squad involvements this season, a first-team debut has eluded him. Now though, the youngster will get the chance to prove his talents on the senior stage. Blackburn Rovers confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that Weston will see out the season on loan at National League side Kidderminster Harriers. It marks his first move away from Rovers. At Aggborough, Weston will play under the management of former Hull City and Derby County boss Phil Brown. He’s been in charge since January as he looks to lead them to safety. Brown should be a good boss for young Weston to learn from. He’s managed as high as the Premier League during his time with Hull City and has plenty of EFL experience to his name too. The Blackburn Rovers talent will be determined to catch the eye in his first shot at senior football. His contract with the Championship club is up in the summer, so this is a chance to prove his talents to them at first-team level, or potentially put himself in the shop window ahead of a change of scenery. Kidderminster find themselves fighting for survival too, so impressive displays could see Weston quickly become a popular figure at Aggborough. They’re 22nd in the table and two points off safety. Blackburn Rovers meanwhile are in a relegation scrap of their own. Three points separate them in 17th and the bottom three.
