bIbrox Exclusive: Rangers set to sell recent signing at ‘huge’ loss Football Insider

Borna Barisic is set to leave Rangers at the end of his contract after he gave the green light to an offer from Trabzonspor, according to Fanatik. The Turkish outlet reported on 19 March that the full-back is now close to signing a deal to cement his departure of Ibrox, with the arrangements set to speed up after a meeting between the Super Lig club’s coach and president. Abdullah Avcı and Ertuğrul Doğan are set for talks in the next few days, after which negotiations will gain momentum and Barisic is expected to be the first player they sign. Barisic had been in talks with Rangers over a new deal earlier this season but since losing his starting place to Ridvan Yilmaz they appear to have halted.

Cyriel Dessers handed Rangers lifeline as Philippe Clement adamant he can save his Ibrox career - Football Scotland

Clearly there must have been interest from Philippe Clement to retain Barisic, at least on a short-term basis, if there were discussions over a new deal. But he is very much second choice now though and this has been tipped as the perfect time for him to move on given he has “let himself down” on occasion in some of the biggest games in recent seasons, particularly some high-profile Celtic losses. There was expected to be movement at left-back in January, with Jefte lined up to come in, and even Yilmaz was free to leave if the right money was put on the table. In the end neither happened and the Turk has become an important part of the Rangers line up under Clement in recent months But it is expected that the Brazilian will still arrive at Ibrox in the summer, and it is possible Yilmaz still moves on, so if Barisic is already about to sign a deal to leave it could be all-change at the position at the conclusion of this campaign.
