Ibrox View: Rangers flop is already eyeing permanent Ibrox exit after Sunday admission

Rangers weren’t in action over the weekend after their clash with Dundee FC was called off at the 11th hour, but some Light Blues players still featured around the globe. While Jose Cifuentes featured for Cruziero in their win over Tombense but failed to make an impact, Sam Lammers starred for FC Utrecht as they ran out 1-0 winners over NEC Nijmegen as he scored the home side’s only goal The 26-year-old is enjoying an excellent loan spell in Holland as he has scored three goals and registered three assists in 10 Eredivisie matches and following his goal on Sunday (17 March) he hinted he may be keen to stay in the Netherlands.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement

As quoted by the Daily Record on Monday (18 March) he said: “It is the second goal that I have been able to score for the Bunnikside, so that is enjoyable. But I should perhaps have scored two more. But scoring for the Bunnikside is addictive. “We are winning now, so I take it for granted. I am happy with the victory, but I still think about those missed opportunities.” Lammers’ move to Ibrox hasn’t worked out for a whole host of reasons and it is hard to see a way back for the 26-year-old under Philippe Clement after he was bombed out of the Belgian’s first-team squad in the January transfer window. Clement isn’t blessed with many fit attacking options in Glasgow, but the Gers boss was still willing to let the striker depart in January as he didn’t believe he could have a more positive impact than the likes of Cyriel Dessers or Fabio Silva That means that a permanent exit feels almost certain this summer, but that is unlikely to happen at Utrecht as Lammers’ loan agreement has no option or obligation to buy included and it remains to be seen if the Dutch club would be willing to pay the fee required. However, Lammers’ excellent recent form will almost certainly mean that the Dutchman is able to find a club willing to take on his wages and pay the fee required to end his Ibrox nightmare only 12 months after it started. Maybe this signing won’t prove to be as disastrous for the Gers as everyone thought it would be a matter of months ago.
