Manchester United has one of the world’s best academies, and they frequently enter the EFL to entice great prospects away from lower league clubs. They appear to be preparing to raid Ipswich Town for one of their young talents.
Writing on X, a credible youth football news source. According to The Secret Scout, Tractor Boys prodigy Silva Mexes is close to joining the Premier League heavyweights.
At only 14, Mexes has had top clubs from all around the country watching his skills, but it appears the Red Devils are likely to grab his signature with a deal close.
Ipswich Town has produced potential players over the years, with some breaking into the first-team at Portman Road and others moving on to better things beyond the Championship club.
Luke Woolfenden, a first-team regular, and young midfielder Cameron Humphreys both came through Town’s academy. Interestingly, Harry Clarke also played for his local club’s youth before departing for Arsenal and returning in January 2023.
Moving on from Town
Of course, Ipswich Town would hope that all of their top young prospects will eventually make it into the first-team squad. However, some will advance to larger teams, and Mexes appears to be one of them.
A move to Manchester United is something few young talents would turn down. The Old Trafford club is one of the most well-known in the world, but it also provides an excellent atmosphere for bright young players to strive and advance their careers.
From Ipswich Town’s perspective, they will send Mexes off with best wishes for the future. Furthermore, it underlines the fantastic job being done at the club’s academy, from the scouts who discovered the child to those who helped him develop.
Meanwhile, Kieran McKenna’s first-team will be hoping to return to winning ways this weekend against Sheffield Wednesday. Town are third in the Championship table, one point behind Leeds United.
