Nicolas Raskin failed to make an impression at Ibrox as Rangers were knocked out of the UEFA Europa League by Benfica.
After a 2-2 draw in the first leg of their Round of 16 match at the Estadio Da Luz (7 March), the Gers would have been confident of advancing to the quarter-finals on home soil.
Benfica defeated Philippe Clement 1-0 at Ibrox on Thursday (14 March), ending his dream of a European run in his debut season in Scotland.
Rafa Silva scored the game-winning goal in the 66th minute, and after being signalled offside, a VAR review overturned the decision, revealing that Benfica’s top scorer was still inside his own half when he was sent through.
Raskin, who started on the bench, was introduced in the 85th minute. Despite his brief appearance, the Daily Record gave him a 1/10 match rating and stated that he had “little effect” (page 46, March 15).
Nicolas Raskin justifies Philippe Clement’s decision.
When a late substitute spends such little time on the pitch, they are normally given a ‘N/A’ for match rating. As a result, Raskin’s 1/10 rating shows how bad he was after being presented.
The 23-year-old replaced Mohammed Diomande as the hosts sought a late equaliser, and his contributions in 11 minutes on the pitch make it difficult to disagree with the Daily Record’s verdict.
According to Sofascore, despite completing 100% of his passes, the Belgian did not contribute to the game by taking shots, creating opportunities for teammates, making critical passes, or playing defence.
