Manchester United boast one of the world’s strongest academies and they often dip into the EFL to prize top prospects away from lower league sides. Now, it seems they’re poised to raid Ipswich Town for one of their emerging talents.Writing on X, reputable youth football news source The Secret Scout has said Tractor Boys prodigy Silva Mexes is closing in on a move to the Premier League giants. At only 14, Mexes has had top clubs from across the country watching his performances but it seems the Red Devils are set to secure his signature with a deal close Excl – Manchester United are close to securing 14-year-old Silva Mexes from Ipswich Town.The young forward has been watched by all top clubs in the country. #MUFC aim for him to join this summer.

Ipswich Town have produced some promising players over the years, with some breaking into the first-team at Portman Road while others have moved onto bigger things beyond the Championship club. First-team mainstay Luke Woolfenden is a product of Town’s academy, as is promising midfielder Cameron Humphreys. Interestingly, Harry Clarke also played for his hometown club’s academy, leaving for Arsenal but then returning in January 2023. Of course, Ipswich Town will hold hope that all of their top young prospects can go on to become first-team regulars in the future. The fact of the matter is though, some will move onto bigger clubs, and Mexes looks set to take that step. A move to Manchester United is a move few young talents would turn down. The Old Trafford outfit are one of the most famous clubs in the world but not only that, it’s a great environment for promising youngsters to try and take their game to the next level. From Ipswich Town’s perspective, they’ll send Mexes on with the best wishes for his future. Furthermore, it highlights the good work going on at the club’s academy, from the scouts who will have uncovered the youngster to those who have played a part in his development. Meanwhile with the first-team, Kieran McKenna will be hoping his side can bounce back to winning ways against Sheffield Wednesday this weekend. Town sit 3rd in the Championship table, a point behind Leeds United.
