Kirk Cousins, the former Minnesota Vikings quarterback, may have experienced a Freudian slip during his introductory news conference with the Atlanta Falcons.
Cousins began one of his responses by saying “meeting” before modifying his wording to “calling” the Falcons’ chief athletic trainer and director of public relations. Regardless of semantics, the contact would be prohibited even during the early stages of negotiations.Teams may only contact player representation within the authorised tampering time, as per league regulations.The league appears to agree that there is at least one possibility, as they are studying the situation. General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was requested to share his perspective on the matter.
He stated that he had not been contacted by the league regarding the probe.
“I’ll be honest, that’s kind of above our fray there,” Adofo-Mensah told reporters at the Vikings’ free agent press conference. “I’ve just been busy working on the roster and preparing to speak with the media. Yeah, I am not aware of any of it.The NFL’s representative believes that it is business as usual. Cousins stated that the Vikings were unwilling to commit to him long-term during the bargaining process before he became a free agent. He stated the Falcons’ willingness to do so was a major factor in his decision.
“In Minnesota, it was trending over the last couple offseasons to be somewhat year-to-year,” Cousins said to reporters on March 13. “As we spoke with Atlanta, it felt like this was a place where I could retire as a Falcon if I played at the level I expected.
“That was something that really excited me, and that’s certainly the goal.”
Russini cited a somewhat different version, citing Cousins’ ability to acquire $100 million in guarantees from Atlanta. The agreement involves a $90 million payment payable at signing.
According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Vikings offered Kirk Cousins a multi-year contract with guaranteed money in the second year. “Ultimately, the Falcons’ offer exceeded Minnesota’s willingness to move. The team’s current focus is on maximising a flexible future.
Vikings carry over $50 million in dead cap space.

He also leaves the Vikings with a $28.5 million dead cap charge for the season. In 2024, the Vikings will pay $50.2 million in dead money for three players from other teams, including Danielle Hunter and Marcus Davenport.
