Rangers speed dating transfer deal could see summer repeat with Oscar Cortes move explained

The world of football transfers is complex and shrouded in secrecy, with Rangers’ move for Oscar Cortes bearing all the markings of a modern deal.

Despite settling relatively quickly, Gers manager Philippe Clement will be without his star winger for the majority of the season due to injury. However, a permanent deal in the summer is still possible.

Rangers have been following Oscar Cortes for a while, but the transfer did not happen through a phone call, according to Nils Koppen.

TransferRoom effectively fulfils its purpose.

It’s a massive meeting when clubs, agents, and directors from all around the world gather in one place.

What follows is football’s equivalent of speed dating, with 15-minute encounters connecting clubs looking for players and agencies looking to transfer their clients on.

Cortes’ agency, Top Athlete Management, was in attendance at the last summit ahead of the January transfer window, looking for a new club for a player who had made the step up to European football but was battling for playing time.

Tomas Sarmiento, president and owner of the Colombian agency, expressed gratitude to TransferRoom for facilitating Oscar Cortes’ dream move to Rangers.

“Our main goal is to identify prominent fresh young talent in Colombia and export them to the most prominent marketplaces on this side of the planet.

“I believe that becoming a Trusted Agent with TransferRoom will help us position ourselves in the future of the football industry.

“I believe that TransferRoom represents more of the cutting edge of where the market is evolving to, and it really leads you to sitting with the big boys.”

Koppen is set to attend the next summit in Rome, where the summer recruitment plan is expected to be a top priority, following his success at the previous meeting in Cortes.

Rangers have demonstrated that South American talent can thrive at the club, and Oscar Cortes may not be the last to arrive. Luca Langoni from Boca Juniors is thought to be a prospective target, alongside Brazilian left-back Jefte.

It’s an exciting time to be a Rangers fan, and with this mentality, the days of lacklustre transfers may be over.
