Opinion: Clement injury crisis sees 23-yo flyer become potential Gers saviour

If there is anyone in the football world who can solve Rangers problems with injuries, we should break our transfer record to sign them. Gers boss Philippe Clement has cut a frustrated figure of late and losing two more players against Hibs at the weekend will have been the last thing he wanted. What this means, is that Rangers will have to turn to someone who has only just returned to fitness but Rabbi Matondo is the only man Clement can turn to in his squad.

The injury list is well into double figures now but, worryingly, most of them seem to be forwards. In terms of wingers and players who can play out wide, Todd Cantwell, Abdallah Sima, Oscar Cortes and Dujon Sterling are now unavailable with Scott Wright and Ross McCausland not 100%. If you wanted to, you could also throw Danilo and Alex Lowry onto this list.Normally, in such a crisis, you would go to the academy. Silva has looked a lot more productive on the left-hand side, all we need now is someone on the right.Rabbi Matondo is the only option available to the Rangers manager. The 23-year old caused Hibs a few problems on Sunday after his surprise inclusion in the squad but he will now be asked to play a bigger role. The option to put Lawrence out wide is also restricted with Sterling and Ryan Jack also unavailable to cover in the middle. Competing in every competition is never easy but Rangers are going to have to do it with half of the squad missing. It’s only when you look at the list of absentees, you realise just how good a job Philippe Clement is doing. The gaffer has been getting everything out of the players available, hopefully he can do the same with Matondo.
