Coventry City opinion from CoventryLive as Sky Blues reporter Andy Turner looks ahead at the task in hand this weekend when the Championship side attempt to get one over Premier League Wolves
However, as everyone knows, things don’t always go as planned, and the FA Cup in especially has a history of causing upsets and surprises. Over the years, City has undoubtedly experienced both humiliation and humility from lower-tier teams as well as the rare “giant” killer. The most recent shock came in Coventry’s debut season in League Two, when they defeated then-Premiership Stoke 2-1 in the 2018 third round. They then came agonizingly close in the fourth round of 2022, forcing Southampton into extra time while putting on a magnificent display that kept them in close company throughout. And before Saturday’s match, supporters of the Sky Blues will be aware that, should they perform at their peak on the day, they stand a good chance of making it to the semifinals and adding another chapter to the club’s contemporary history. This seems like an ideal time to play Wolves, who, despite their recent success, are set to be missing two of their best players in Pedro Neto and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, leaving O’Neil with just Pablo Sarabia as his senior striker. Not that they don’t have enough of youthful talent to cover, but in a game of narrow margins, every little bit counts.
