BREAKING NEWS: Coventry coach Lawrence leaving for Minnesota role

Coventry City first-team coach Dennis Lawrence is leaving the Championship club to join Major League Soccer side Minnesota United. The 49-year-old will depart the Sky Blues after Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final at Wolves to take up the role of assistant head coach at the MLS outfit.

Lawrence has been a part of Mark Robins’ backroom team since 2021. “It is an incredible opportunity for Dennis and his family,” Robins told the club website. Former Wrexham and Swansea centre-back Lawrence won 89 caps for Trinidad and Tobago during his on-field career and played at the 2006 World Cup. He managed his country from 2017 to 2019 before joining Coventry two years later, helping them reach the Championship play-off final last season.“I would like to thank Dennis for his hard work and important contribution to the success that we have experienced over the last few years, during which he has been a popular and integral part of our team,” Robins added. Minnesota’s head coach is former Wales and Manchester United assistant Eric Ramsay, who became the youngest manager in MLS history when he took over, aged 32, in February.
