Pundit Gives Mikey Johnston Fee; Names Three Potential Clubs

The Republic of Ireland international has been in and around the Celtic first team since making his debut for the club in a 4-1 win over St Johnstone back in May 2017. Since that time, Johnston has gone on and made just 92 appearances for Celtic scoring just 13 goals and creating twelve assists. [Transfermarkt] To put that into context, in just over two years at Celtic, Daizen Maeda has made 100 appearances and has scored 27 goals and created 15.So it’s clear that Johnston has really struggled to make his mark on the team. However, now on loan at West Brom, the 24-year-old is lighting up the English Championship and grabbing all the headlines after netting six goals in nine appearances. And that has led to interest being shown not only from The Baggies but other clubs in the English Championship. So that means Celtic, should they decide to sell Johnston, will be expecting a pretty penny for the academy graduate, right?

Carlton Palmer names the fee Celtic will be expecting to get for Mikey JohnstonIt seems that Celtic will demand a seven-figure fee for the tricky winger should West Brom or any other club look to obtain his services for next season. And former England international, Carlton Palmer thinks the Parkhead club will play hardball in any potential deal. Palmer said [Football League World], “He’s having a fabulous time at West Brom, and he’s enjoying his football there. “He’s still currently got his contract at his parent club at Celtic, there is no fee being written to his contract, so who knows whether West Brom would be able to afford him with the new owners they’ve got in. “But certainly, Norwich and Sunderland, and other prospective Championship clubs will be monitoring the situation given his outstanding form for West Bromwich Albion. “With Sunderland’s policy of trying to buy young players, and get them in cheap, I don’t think Johnston will fall into that because I think Celtic will be looking at least £2m or £3m given his form in the Championship.” It’s clear that West Brom manager, Carlos Corberan, is a huge fan of the Celtic winger. After he netted his first goal he labelled Johnston as a ‘playmaker’ with a ‘very good finish’. So if Corberan wants to take him to the Championship permanently, he better urge his board to get the chequebook out as it seems that Mikey Johnston will be in demand come the end of the season.
