Following their Scottish Cup victory at Hibs, Kris Boyd has selected three Rangers players for his Scottish Sun squad of the week.
On March 12, the Sky Sports commentator selected defender Connor Goldson, goal scorers Fabio Silva and John Lundstram of Easter Road, and an Aberdeen club led by the now-former manager Neil Warnock. After a contentious match against Hibs, the Light Blues advanced to the semifinals to face Hearts, while the Jambos were joined in the last four by the Dons and Celtic.
Boyd selected Warnock in addition to three players from Aberdeen, two players from Hearts, two Hoops players—including hat-trick artist Daizen Maider—and one player from the losing teams, Lewis Strapp of Greenock Morton.Kris Boyd acknowledges three Rangers players for their cup win over the Hibs.
The host team concluded with nine men after a difficult match against the Hibees, thanks to Philippe Clement’s team. Some have taken issue with the refereeing decisions, and there have been ramifications from off-field behavior in the fans. The vulnerable Rangers squad was further diminished when Ryan Jack was ruled out before kickoff, resulting in two more injured Gers players.
Only three days after securing a solid draw away at Benfica in Europe, it must be considered a creditable performance given the circumstances.
After Dujon Sterling was brought down by Jordan Obita, Lundstram scored from James Tavernier’s saved penalty to give the Gers the lead. Silva then secured the victory with a well-taken goal late in the game.
Although Goldson is arguably luckier to be included in Boyd’s squad of the week, the center defender shouldn’t be too proud of himself for keeping a clean sheet under trying conditions.
The fact that Warnock resigned at Pittodrie soon following their 3-1 victory over Kilmarnock, however, is all the more surprising given that he was chosen to be the coach.
