Chief of the
Romanian FA Mihai Stoichita has lashed out at Alaves for what he calls a “waste of time” in loaning Rangers forward Ianis Hagi.
During the summer transfer window, the offensive midfielder signed a season-long loan with the La Liga team, but he hasn’t played much, totaling just 575 minutes in 17 outings.
Additionally, Stoichita, the technical director of the
Romanian FA, has called the manager of the Spanish team “unfair” to him and called the entire move a “waste of time” for all sides.
Why did Alaves sign him to a Rangers loan? According to the Glasgow Times (6 March), he added, “I just don’t understand why they don’t play him.”
“Alaves are not really intelligent or anything. I simply assume
Ianis isn’t playing because I keep watching their games and fail to see that he isn’t.And when I do watch their matches, I can tell by looking at their players that Ianis could perform on par with them, if not better.
“I question why the manager is treating him unfairly. Ianis has the ability to score goals for you at any moment and can penetrate defenses with a deft ball. They consistently lose or tie with the same set of opponents. Why did you initially sign him? There was obviously no genuine strategy formed for the season when Hagi was let to depart Ibrox temporarily in the summer, with
Michael Beale serving as manager.Since then, S
am Lammers has left the team in January. Since taking over, new manager Philippe Clement has had a significant impact, strengthening the team’s attacking options with the addition of Oscar Cortes and Fabio Silva.
However, since the transfer window has closed, the manager has suffered severe injury setbacks, ruling out a number of choices that might have given a player like Hagi opportunities.
