BREAKING NEWS: Rangers will wish they’d signed £5m star after 20 goals and Salah comparisons

Former Rangers target Andreas Skov Olsen, who is currently regarded as “the best player in Belgium,” has helped Ibrox’s one-that-got-away goal push his season total to 20 goals.

The goal of the Rangers is to bring a new winger to Ibrox in the winter of 2022. While it’s true that Amad Diallo’s brief stint north of the border did not go as expected, two other players who were also under the Glasgow giants’ radar at the time have achieved some rather significant success after eluding the Gers’ defence.

The in-form Icelandic international, who was only available for £1 million in 2022, is currently valued at almost £30 million after excelling in Serie A with Genoa.Rangers reportedly made a £5 million approach for Andreas Skov Olsen when he was also practicing his trade in Italy (Il Resto del Carlino).

Rangers wanted Andreas Skov Olsen in 2022

In contrast to Gudmudsson, Skov Olsen’s time in Serie A was short-lived. These days, Club Brugge’s gain is undeniably Bologna’s loss (and Rangers’, if you may argue), as the free-scoring Denmark international increased his 2023/24 goal total to 20 with a penalty in Sunday’s 3-0 triumph over KRC Genk.

“I am confident that Skov Olsen possesses the necessary skills,” Denmark’s manager Kasper Hjulmand tells Het Laaste Nieuws, virtually ensuring that the former Nordsjaelland standout will be included in his Euro 2024 team.

“In my opinion, Skov Olsen is still the best player in Belgium because of his lethal left foot.”

A large portion of Skov Olsen’s 20 goals and eight assists this season have come from his “deadly left foot.” It also helps to explain why Skov Olsen, who like cutting in from the right, has been compared to contemporary greats like Mo Salah and Arjen Robben.

Right-winger Philippe Clement is still lacking in quality.

The irony that Rangers fans will not miss is that, even if the team has recently had little trouble finding skilled left-wingers, the right-wing position is still undoubtedly the worst in Philippe Clement’s lineup, two years after Skov Olsen relocated to Belgium from Scotland.

Ross McCausland’s form has declined since his impressive pre-Christmas outburst, and Scott Wright is essentially ineffective, so Clement might be inclined to start Dujon Sterling, who signed as a full-back in the summer, right away against Benfica on Thursday.
