There are allegedly “no talks” going on between Hearts manager Steven Naismith and Rangers-linked Lawrence Shankland regarding a new deal.
Following Lawrence Shankland’s 27th goal of the year in the team’s 2-0 victory over Celtic, the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars spoke.
In addition, the striker scored his 20th Scottish Premiership goal of the year, sparking speculation of a possible summer transfer to Rangers once more.
When asked if Hearts planned to keep the Scotland international striker on the team past the summer, Steven Naismith acknowledged that negotiations over Lawrence Shankland’s contract are now on hold.
Steven Naismith’s contract with Lawrence Shankland
When questioned about Lawrence Shankland’s contract status, Hearts manager Steven Naismith remained composed while speaking to BBC Sportsound after the team’s victory over Celtic.
There will undoubtedly be many suitors as he enters the final 12 months of his contract in the summer, and maybe the childhood Rangers fan will get to visit Ibrox after all.
We’re in the thick of the season, so there aren’t any talks going on right now, according to Naismith. We’ll wait and see what transpires in the summer.
“We’re in a good position, we’re winning games, and we’re playing good football.” That is the primary concern and our current point of emphasis.
“These outings, these triumphs, and all of this excellent work thus far this season; let’s keep building and see where we finish.”
“I don’t think we need to sell the club to anybody, I think we just show what we’re capable of,” Lawrence Shankland said when asked if selling Hearts was necessary.
“As a manager, I’ve said it before: just give the players the truth about what we can offer them, whether they are players you’re keeping or bringing in.
“Playing in Europe and having days like today is what we can aim for every season, and that will draw talented players.”
When questioned about the circumstances following the game, Shankland responded, “We’ll see.” Later on, we’ll start discussions. The club and I are pleased with the current state of affairs, which is going rather well. We continue to win games, and everyone is content.
Striker for Hearts wanted by Rangers?
Hearts talisman Lawrence Shankland is at the forefront of the Ibrox conversation as Rangers prepare for what might be a summer of attacking line changes.
The 28-year-old striker, who is the star of the Scottish Premiership, is a childhood bluenose and may be open to suitors in the summer as he approaches the last 12 months of his Hearts contract.
Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers, who is still wasteful in front of goal, is seriously under doubt. Supporters’ concerns about the Nigerian’s dependability are still present.
Ibrox striker Kemar Roofe, who is slowly recovering from another injury, is another perennial injured player whose contract expires at the end of the current campaign.
As things stand, the striker will have a difficult time persuading Philippe Clement to give him anything less than a new contract at Rangers.
We anticipate that Rangers’ ears may have been perked up because Lawrence Shankland’s Hearts contract negotiations have been postponed until the summer.
