Given that Tony Pollard is a free agent, the Dallas Cowboys may need to find a new running back. The Cowboys are more likely to find a long-term replacement through the draft than to try to sign a veteran off the open market. The Cowboys are expected to choose Texas running back Jonathan Brooks in the second round with the 56th overall choice in Sports Illustrated’s most recent mock draft. “Brooks is a fascinating piece of the 2024 running back puzzle, thanks to his late emergence as a viable three-down option at the position,” says Athlon Sports. “How will teams counterbalance the lack of sample size with the clean resume? He possesses the physicality to run downhill in a vertical scheme as well as the foot quickness and agility to run zone concepts. Think of Brooks as one of the more adaptable choices in this class.” Brooks made a 2024 declaration.
After a junior season in which he ran for 1,139 yards and 10 touchdowns on 187 runs and caught 25 passes for 286 yards and another score, he was selected in the NFL Draft. For his accomplishments, Brooks was selected to the Second Team All-Big 12.
