According to reports, West Ham and Newcastle are keen to sign Ipswich Town left back Leif Davis during the summer transfer window, especially if Kieran McKenna’s team is unable to secure promotion this year.
The 24-year-old Davis joined Ipswich from Leeds United in the summer of 2022 for a reported £1.2 million. He has a record 14 assists in the Championship thus far this season.
After going through Leeds’ youth, Davis spent the 2021–2022 season on loan at Bournemouth, where he started to exhibit genuine promise.
Emerson has performed admirably since joining West Ham from Chelsea, but the Hammers may very well try to bolster their left back position in the summer in order to find a replacement for Aaron Cresswell, 34, who is nearing the end of his playing career.
When asked lately if he thought the fullback had what it took to be a Premier League player, Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna responded, “I think he certainly can,” as reported by London World. That is beyond any doubt in my mind.
“Yet, he’s still a young player, having only played in two regular senior football seasons.” However, if you ask me, “Does he have the components, the qualities, and the potential to play at the next level and do well at the next level?'” Yes, without a doubt.
If West Ham decides to press forward with signing Davis, Newcastle United could present fierce competition. This is because Davis was born and raised in the North East, thus the opportunity to play for his boyhood club in his hometown might be too good to pass up.
During the summer, Davis expressed his admiration for The Magpies by saying, “I’ve always been a huge fan and had a season ticket at St James’ park for years.” “My favourite games were the European nights when my dad and brother and I went up there,” the player continued.
