Mark Robins is committed to making sure Coventry City’s season doesn’t “fizzle out” following two consecutive Championship losses.

The Sky Blues have lost both of their Friday night games against teams in the play-offs, 3-0 at Preston North End and 2-1 at West Bromwich Albion. With 11 games remaining, City might fall even farther out of the play-off picture. Heading into today’s league games, they were still four points behind sixth-placed Hull.

The Robins’ 750th game under management came on Friday when they lost at the Hawthorns. When asked whether the disappointment over the outcome outweighed his overall sense of accomplishment at Coventry and his bright future, he replied, “The bigger picture is that we need to do more. Even though we are where we are at, you always want to do more.” And we need to make sure that this season doesn’t end right now, in the near future.

Everyone is talking about how we have to make it to the playoffs, but in all honesty, I believe we needed and still need assistance from other sources. As I say every week, if we have every player fit, we can defeat anybody, even with injuries to important players in a team the size of ours. However, we haven’t, and now that they’re in need of additional assistance.

Due to injuries to Ben Sheaf and Jamie Allen, City has been lacking in midfield for the past several weeks. Additionally, Takatsuhiro Sakamoto’s season-ending back injury has left City lacking on the right wing.

Robins stated, “Tatsu has come out and he needed a breather.” He is experiencing that now, but it is a result of his injuries, so I believe that cautious planning and execution will be necessary going forward. For the time being, all we need to do is make sure we stay motivated and apply the mindset from the second half to the remaining games of the season.
