Former Celtic right-back and current pundit Mark Wilson has selected Daniel Kelly’s first senior football goal as the week’s most memorable moment for Hoops rookie Daniel Kelly. The 18-year-old made his debut during the Celtics’ crushing 7-1 victory over Dundee on Wednesday night, and he looked very good. Kelly, who came on for captain Callum McGregor at halftime, scored an absolute hat trick.

Winger Yang Hyun-jun did well out wide to cut back for the midfielder who caressed the ball with the inside of his weaker right foot and into the top corner. It was a strike synonymous with those that Kelly has scored for the Hoops’ B side this campaign. He has hit optimum heights in the youth academy since joining the club at the age of eight. The teen was delighted to net for the first team on Wednesday and Wilson ranked it as the best of the recent round of midweek fixtures across Scotland: “I’ve got to go for Daniel Kelly at Celtic”, he said (Clyde 1 Superscoreboard). “Just everything that was wrapped around it. I know the game was done and dusted but he got introduced at half-time, I thought when he came on he played very well. “It falls to him on his right-foot, just eighteen yards (out) and he just guides it into the top corner. I thought it was a very good goal from the young man.” Amidst a title race that is as tight as ever, it is a testament to Kelly’s capabilities that he is gaining vital first-team opportunities. They may dwindle as things go down to the wire, but Brendan Rodgers’ faith in youth, along with the youngster’s talent and potential, should not be underestimated.
