The 22-year-old winger had been a key player for the Hoops after his arrival from Maccabi Petah Tikva in the summer of 2021. He would go on to help the side to the League Cup and the title in his first season, where he also scooped the Young Player of the Year award in Scotland after scoring ten league goals. Abada would hit double figures again in the previous campaign, as Celtic went one better and won the treble under Ange Postecoglou. However, this season has been much tougher for the player, for a variety of reasons. Firstly, he suffered a serious injury that ruled him out for months, whilst the ongoing Israel-Palestine war has complicated his relationship with a section of the support at Parkhead. As a result, there was talk that Abada could leave in January, with reports stating that West Brom and Southampton were among the admirers. Even though he remained with the Glasgow giants beyond the window, Abada hasn’t featured for the side since a poor display as a substitute in the win over Hibernian back on February 7. He has failed to make the matchday squad since, with Brendan Rodgers admitting that the youngster wasn’t in the right frame of mind to play.
Hence, it should come as no surprise to learn that Celtic, who are keen to recoup their investment in the player, are ready to cash in on Abada during the upcoming transfer window, according to Football Insider. “Celtic is now prepared to consider bids for Liel Abada, a winger, during the summer transfer window.“Football Insider has been informed by a reliable source that there is a sense among the team that Abada wishes to leave. When the window opens this summer, it’s unlikely that the Hoops will get in his way, according to sources. It remains to be seen whether Saints or Albion go back in for Abada in the summer, but he would appear to be a great signing for any side in the Championship. Obviously, he has struggled this season, but Abada was a key figure under Postecoglou, with his direct style and ability to sniff out chances at the back post a major feature of Celtic’s play under the Aussie. At 22, we are talking about a player with huge potential, and to pick him up for a fee in the region of £3.5m would represent a bargain in the current climate. With Southampton and Albion both in the mix for promotion, they will wait until they know what division they’re in before they finalise recruitment plans. But, if Abada was on their radar just a few months ago, it would be no surprise if they went back in for him later this year
