Injury update for West Brom vs. Coventry City Championship: eight players ruled out

West Brom v Coventry Championship injury news as eight ruled out

On Friday night, West Brom will be back on Sky Sports television when they play Coventry City at The Hawthorn’s in the EFL Championship. Because of the national media’s interest in the Baggies, Sky Sports will continue to show several of the team’s games into March.

The first formal game of Shilen Patel’s reign, which began on Friday when he defeated Chinese businessman Guochuan Lai, is against Coventry. Now holding an 87.8% ownership part in the team, he and his father Kiran Patel stated in their first interview that the club belonged in the Premier League. That goal is not impossible to achieve because West Brom has a play-off position.

West Brom is five points clear of Coventry City, who are in ninth place, and leads Norwich City, who are in eighth place, by four points. A win would put some distance between West Brom and the pursuing group, but a rare home loss would let any teams with aspirations of finishing in the top six pass.

News about the West Brom team

Due to a tendon injury, Brandon Thomas-Asante will be out for two to five weeks. Last week, Carlos Corberan announced that the striker would get another scan to determine the extent of the injury and that they would go cautiously since pushing him too soon could result in him suffering a more serious injury.

With Josh Maja and Daryl Dike out, West Brom’s striker options are restricted. Dike suffered an Achilles rupture earlier this month, and as he heals from this latest setback, he will miss the entirety of 2024. Josh Maja has been sidelined since December due to an injury to his ankle ligament.

Jayson Molumby, an international player for the Republic of Ireland, is another who will not participate due to foot surgery. Matt Phillips may be able to play again over the Easter break despite suffering a hamstring injury in the winter. Veteran defender Martin Kelly hurt his calf while practicing for the under-21 squad, and it’s probable he won’t be involved in any of the team’s activities this year.

Josh Maja, Martin Kelly, Jayson Molumby, Daryl Dike, and Brandon Thomas-Asante are out.

News about the Coventry City team

Due to a back injury sustained during the loss to Preston North End, Tasuhiro Sakamoto will be out for the duration of the campaign. After being challenged, he collapsed severely and needed to be helped onto a stretcher before being sent to the hospital. The 27-year-old, who is currently recuperating at home, witnessed his teammates raise a shirt in celebration of Ellis Simms’ goal during the FA Cup victory over Maidstone United.

Mark Robins, the manager, told BBC Radio West Midlands that the player would miss the remainder of the season.

“I want to wait for things to calm down and make sure Tats is correct because I haven’t been able to communicate with him other than through texts, so I don’t want to reveal what it is just yet.

“He will be maybe eight to 10 weeks and that sees us to the end of the season.”

Ben Sheaf was given six to eight weeks to recover from a serious hamstring strain that occurred at the end of January. In mid-March, he is anticipated to resume his activities.

During the FA Cup triumph over Sheffield Wednesday, Jamie Allen broke his cheekbone and required surgery to implant titanium plates. Allen won’t play after the international break because he is anticipated to resume training the week before the hectic Easter break.

Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, Jamie Allen, and Ben Sheaf are out.
