According to Championship manager turned pundit Simon Grayson, Steven Schumacher won’t regret moving from Plymouth Argyle to Stoke City.
After leading the team to the Championship in League One with an amazing season of goal-scoring, Schumacher was a hero at Home Park for the job he had done there in his two years as manager. Nonetheless, he accepted the opportunity to take over as head coach at Stoke in the middle of December, and inquiries during his press conference on the position being a poisoned chalice may have brought attention to exactly how difficult it was.
After what may have been a pivotal away victory over Middlesbrough this past weekend, Plymouth moved up to 15th place in the standings as Stoke fell to a 2-1 loss at Cardiff, sending them plummeting into the relegation zone. Twelve games remain to be played in order to settle the score between the six clubs.
“Even though there is a nice little gap, Blackburn, Birmingham, Plymouth, and Swansea will all be looking over their shoulders, as football can change very quickly,” Grayson stated. There’s trouble for Millwall and Stoke. Steven Schumacher’s tenure at Stoke hasn’t exactly gone as planned, and Millwall has been thrust into it.
“While having faith and confidence might help you succeed and move up the table, having the opposite effect can drag you into a relegation struggle and make it difficult to predict when you will win again.
“You do worry about Millwall and Stoke, but there are a lot of points up for grabs, and everyone will be working incredibly hard behind the scenes to keep them out of League One.” It will be a thrilling conclusion to the season.
“But he won’t regret leaving Plymouth-he’ll dream of taking Stoke back to the Premier League,” he continued in an interview with InstantCasinos.com.
Given that Stoke is a major football team—with all due respect to Plymouth, who had been in the lower leagues for some time—I don’t think he will regret leaving. I still see why Steven accepted the position. He want to lead Stoke to glory and be the only player to return to the Premier League. Geographical factors also had a significant impact.
“Managers should not be viewed less for moving clubs because it takes courage to leave stable jobs and take on challenges that push themselves further. They can only regret the things that they don’t do.”
