Update: £6.5k-p/w Sunderland ace ruled out of Luton alongside Ballard despite training return

Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris will be without two key players, Daniel Ballard and Eliezer Mayenda, for their upcoming Championship match against Luton Town, despite both returning to training.

Le Bris has made a significant impact since taking charge, leading Sunderland from potential relegation threats to the top of the league, with their form improving remarkably. However, he still faces challenges with injuries to important squad members.

Ballard, a central defender who has been sidelined since the end of September, is still not ready to feature against Luton. Although he has resumed training, Le Bris has indicated that Ballard may return to full fitness by next week.

Mayenda, a forward who has missed action since the Watford match at the end of September, is also ruled out. While he is training and progressing, Le Bris mentioned that the upcoming Oxford United match might be too soon for his return due to a muscle injury.

Le Bris expressed optimism about both players’ recoveries, noting: “We won’t have either of the two players for the Luton game… Eliezer is training… but he should be available after that. For Ballard, it should be next week when he is able to get back up to full speed.”

The return of Ballard and Mayenda will be crucial for Sunderland as they look to maintain their Championship momentum. Mayenda, at just 19, has shown promise with two goals in six matches this season, and Ballard’s experience will be invaluable as they aim for promotion. Both players are expected to be back in action by the time Sunderland faces Queens Park Rangers at the beginning of November, providing a further boost to Le Bris’ squad.
